This is a translation of «Om Tenk mer» (Norwegian)
“Tenk mer” is an online magazine for diversity, debate and the power of the individual, using the following methods:
- The free exchange of opinion
- Respect for others’ opinions
- Openness and dialogue
- Insightful participation in discussions online and on social media
- Comprehensive, thorough research and argumentation
“Tenk mer” started as a think tank in 2012 and was a project run by Folkeakademiet Rogaland. Our motivation was to create an arena for the free exchange of opinion, with a focus on the idea of “good conversation” (inclusive, open debate where the sides listen to each other, rather than competing with each other); a place where we could, with respect for others’ opinions, move closer to a common starting point (consensus) for action.
We have started an online magazine in order to continue our conversation, this time with our readers, rather than with a panel in front of an audience. Being a magazine of this type, we have one other important responsibility: to participate in online discussion in an insightful way.
We will tell stories from average people’s lives in interviews and in articles, and discuss topics which interest us. We will take a thorough attitude to our research and arguments in our work, and we hope our readers will be inspired to approach these issues with the same attention to detail.
The writers (both the editors and other contributors) will use the new knowledge we gain through writing this magazine, to strengthen our agency as individuals, as Paolo Freire says: “(…) Through learning they can make and remake themselves, because women and men are able to take responsibility for themselves as beings capable of knowing—of knowing that they know and knowing that they don’t.”
We look forward to presenting to you our first issue on the 31st of January 2017.
